The Bodhi Tree also known as Bo(Sinhalese) tree was a very large and sacred tree located in Bodh Gaya ( Budda gaya). Under this tree Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment. In religious iconography the Bodhi tree is recognized by its heart shaped leaves.
This tree is often cite as a direct descendant from the original specimen which is planted in 288 BC.
This tree is frequent destination for pilgrims,and being the most important of four main Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Most of sri lankans visit bodhgaya and offer their observances. Ananda Bodhi in Sravasthi(India) and Bodhi tree in Anuradapura(Sri Lanka) have been propagated form the original Bo tree.
